The Office of Training Grant Support organizes educational opportunities designed to engage the training grant community in relevant topics in the administration and support of training grants. While these events are largely informational, they are intended to contribute to professional growth and development for training grant administrators. When future offerings are available they will be provided below as well as shared by email to the training grant administrators listserv. Info Session on NIH NRSA Childcare Costs for Training Grants (August 4, 2022)

In Fall 2021, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced an initiative to provide funds for childcare costs to NRSA trainees supported on training grants. The availability of these funds for NRSA training grant awards (continuation, new, or renewal) began in NIH FY 2022. This session will include an overview of the NIH NRSA childcare costs policy as well as campus guidance on the use and administration of the NRSA childcare benefit for eligible trainees.

Panel on Program Orientation for NIH-funded Trainees (September 29, 2021)

Join us for a facilitated panel discussion on program orientation for NIH-funded trainees! Panelists are seasoned training grant administrators representing T32 programs supporting predoctoral trainees and/or postdoctoral trainees. They will share their process and experience designing and delivering trainee orientation. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and share their related experiences.

The post-award closeout process for training grants is a collaborative effort between PIs, administrators, Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP), and the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education. The primary objective of this session is to provide a complete overview of the training grant closeout process.

Managing NIH Trainee Appointments (May 4, 2021)

The administration of trainee appointments is an important responsibility of training grant award management. This session will cover the implementation, management and termination of trainee appointments, including related expenses (stipend, tuition and travel).

It takes a village to navigate the complexities of NIH National Research Service Award (NRSA) Training Grants. This discussion group session will cover multiple areas associated with submitting NIH NRSA Training Grant proposals and award management. This session is designed to be interactive and facilitate the opportunity for attendees to share their experience and best practices administering training grants.

Office of Training Grant Support Update (Week of March 2, 2020)

UW–Madison training grant administrators will receive an update from the Office of Training Grant Support (OTGS) and discuss ways OTGS can best support training program activities and ideas for developing useful training grant data tools.

NIH xTRACT for RPPR Discussion (October 25, 2019)

As of October 1, 2019, NIH will require training grant recipients to use the xTRACT system to create the required training tables for RPPR (i.e. progress report) submissions. The Office of Training Grant Support and Office of Research and Sponsored Programs are hosting a RED HOT Discussion Group to provide a high-level overview on the xTRACT system and demonstrate how to use the system to prepare a training table, known as a Research Training Dataset (RTD) for a RPPR.

NIH NRSA Training Programs:  An Interactive Workshop from Application to Administration‐Everything Needed to Successfully Apply for and Manage a T32 Award (July 19, 2019)

This workshop will cover multiple areas associated with NIH NRSA Training Grant (T32) proposals and awards. Following a brief introduction about NIH NRSA Training grant programs, we will breakdown the workshop into three basic components: 1. Pre‐award proposal preparation (including required data tables), 2. Award management best practices (including xTrain use) and 3. Post‐award considerations upon both annual and award closeout.
